William "Buck" Dawson, 1920-2008

The International Sports Heritage Association has lost one of its founding fathers.  Buck Dawson, the organization’s first President, passed away on April 4 at the age of 87.

"Buck's committment and passion not only for his first love of swimming but for all sports epitomizes what the International Sports Heritage Association is all about," commented ISHA President Dave Chase.  "His nearly four decades of support of our organization will never be forgotten."

Buck Dawson
A Remembrance

by Ed Harris (April 5)

He was a gentle man, a humorous man, a giving man, a soulful and charismatic man. He gave us his laughter, his experience, his stories of starlets, celebrities and fawned conquests – always with just enough twist that left you wondering, “Is that the way it really happened?”

He truly did know them all, and his exceptional vision that pierced his fun-loving attitude about life resulted in the foundation of what we refer to today as the International Sports Heritage Association.

As one of our three founding fathers, Buck Dawson will be forever remembered fondly by all who knew him. To honor his memory, we should pause a moment in our busy lives to reflect on his caring demeanor, his robust laugh, and his entertaining tales recounting his many adventures with the sporting greats of yesteryear.

May he rest in peace with the knowledge that we will keep him in our hearts forever.

Ed Harris is a long-time ISHA member and currently serves on the organization's Board of Directors as Treasurer.
