Bobby Orr Hall of Fame Expanding Exhibit Space

The Bobby Orr Hall of Fame will be expanding its exhibition space through a new digital project, supported by Digital Museums Canada. Values are at the center of the stories we tell at the Bobby Orr Hall of Fame. These values are held by Bobby Orr, taught to us through sport, and exemplified by our inductees.

A goal of our total exhibition redesign in 2023 was to update our stories for modern audiences. This includes working towards the Truth and Reconciliation Commission’s Call to Action #87. In doing this, we want to highlight indigenous values taught by our Anishinabek neighbors. This exhibition will explore the Seventh Generation Principle and Seven Grandfather Teachings through the lens of sport and values. The Seventh Generation Principle focuses on respecting the world we live in and making decisions today that will benefit those seven generations from now. The Seven Grandfather Gifts is an Anishinaabe teaching that provides guidance for living a good life. The seven gifts are Love, Respect, Bravery, Truth, Honesty, Humility, and Wisdom.

These values will be captured through videos featuring a variety of indigenous community members, exploring how these teachings can intersect with sports. The videos will be key components in a digital exhibit hosted by Digital Museums Canada and will also be accessible through QR codes in our physical exhibition space.

The Bobby Orr Hall of Fame is excited to work alongside local indigenous communities and Digital Museums Canada to develop a virtual history of these stories and values over the next two years.
