Muskegon Area Sports Hall of Fame

Organized in 1987, the Muskegon Area Sports Hall of Fame pays tribute to the many heroes and important names in the rich history of sports achievement in the Lake Michigan shoreline area anchored by Greater Muskegon.

A fascinating collection of artifacts, photos and commemorative plaques honoring our sports heritage await the visitor to our displays. Located in the L.C. Walker Arena and Conference Center, the hall features displays highlighting the accomplishments of the over 100 sports notables enshrined over the years.

A sampling of inductees includes: Bennie Oosterbaan, all-time All American at the University of Michigan: Earl Morrall, NFL MVP with the Baltimore Colts; Bob Zuppke, legendary football coach at the University of Illinois; Kenny Lane, a top contender for boxing’s lightweight crown in the 1950’s; Frank Howell, University of Michigan football and baseball player; Jack Tighe, former manager of the Detroit Tigers; Sally Sessions, a founding member of the LPGA; Paul Griffin, former NBA ball player; Ed Burton, former member of the Harlem Globetrotters and NBA; and Sherm Poppen, the inventor of the snowboard.
